Impossible To Forget: Chapter Three

Hebe stared out from her window, looking at the view of the town. It’s been several days since she last went out. Ever since she skipped piano practice, her mother has been very strict on Hebe’s whereabouts. She sighed in frustration; she wanted freedom – away from her mother’s manipulative grasp. She didn't want to be cooped up in a cage anymore.

“Miss Hebe, breakfast is ready” Kenny bowed his head before exiting the room.

Hebe sighed, her life was repetitive. There was nothing exciting going on. The last excitement she had was when she was hanging out with Aaron and Jiro, experiencing a normal life. She's never had that much fun in her life, ever. She reluctantly dragged herself to the dining table.

“Hebe, a lady does not drag her feet.” Her mother lectured as soon as Hebe took her seat.

Hebe glared at her mother, she was getting tired of all the nagging, “Dad doesn’t care, why do you?”

Her mother gasped in shock, “Hebe! Darling aren’t you going to say anything?”

Hebe’s father grunted but continued to read his newspaper. There was no way he wanted to get involved in this fight. “I’m busy dear.”

“I had enough of this. I’m sick of all these rules. I’m sick of these etiquettes that I have to follow and you know what else? I’m sick of you mother. I’m not hungry anymore, I’m going out.” Hebe stormed out of the house. She was furious. She reached her limit of patience.

▀▀▀

“Aaron, what are you doing?” Jiro waved his hands in front of the dazed Aaron.

“Huh, what?” Aaron asked.

Jiro grinned, “Can’t stop thinking about someone? Perhaps a certain rich girl?” Jiro laughed.

Aaron let out a sarcastic laugh, “Not funny. Besides, did you forget? I have a girlfriend.”

Jiro rolled his eyes, “Charlene’s barely ever around! I think you deserve better man and besides how did you know I was talking about Hebe?” Jiro raised a curious eye at Aaron.

“Charlene’s the one man and I knew you were talking about Hebe because that’s all you’ve been talking about ever since that night! Maybe someday you’ll meet your soulmate.” Aaron patted Jiro’s back, “That day might be far away from now though. Don’t get your hopes up man.” Aaron laughed and ran away as Jiro tried to grab ahold him.

▀▀▀

“Miss Hebe!” Kenny called out as he rushed over to Hebe’s side with her purse. “Please don’t get lost.”

Hebe smiled, “Thank you Kenny. I’ll be home and if not, I’ll be sure to call you ahead of time.”

“Have a wonderful day Miss Hebe.” Kenny smiled and opened the car door for her.

“Have fun dealing with my monster of a mom.” Hebe rolled her eyes.

▀▀▀

“Guess who?” A pair of hands covered Aaron’s eyes. He grinned as soon as he heard the sound of a familiar voice.

“Charlene…” Aaron answered and turned around to see a beautiful girl smiling back at him. She wrapped her hands around his neck and gave him a quick peck on the lips.

“I missed you Aaron.” Charlene sighed as she played with Aaron’s hair, “I’m sorry I’ve been so caught up with work but today, I am all yours!”

Aaron smiled, “All mines?”

Charlene nodded and leaned in closer, “I am all yours.”

Aaron grinned and wrapped his arms around her waist, “Well Miss Choi, I’m all yours as well!” He picked her up and spun her around as she giggled in delight.

“Okay lovebirds, can you take that outside?” Jiro motioned the two to go outside.

“Sorry Jiro!” Charlene apologized, “Listen Jiro, tomorrow my beautiful cousin is coming to town and I was wondering if you could possibly accompany her and her friend around town? Give them a tour or something?” Charlene pouted before Jiro could answer, “Please Jiro!”

Jiro sighed, “Ugh, fine! But you owe me one.”

Charlene rushed out of Aaron’s grasp to give Jiro a quick hug before returning back to Aaron’s side, “Thanks Jiro! I owe ya.”

Aaron smiled, “Well what do you say we go out for ice cream?” Aaron asked Charlene as he intertwined his hands with hers.

She nodded in excitement, “It’s been a while since we went out on dates.”

▀▀▀

Hebe look around at all the stores down the street, she didn’t know where exactly to eat. While driving down the road, she saw a familiar face. She slowly drove by the person to get a better look – it was Aaron. She rolled down her window to greet him but as soon as she saw Charlene walking to his side and linking arms with him, she rolled up her window. “So he has a girlfriend…” She muttered. As she continued driving, she couldn’t help but look in her rearview mirror to glance at the happy couple.

“Can I have a cookies n’ cream ice cream please?” Hebe ordered.

“Hebe?” A familiar voice called out.

Hebe turned around and gasped. “What are you doing here Gillian? I thought we weren’t meeting up until tomorrow?”

Gillian grinned, “Surprise! I got an earlier flight so I thought I would surprise you guys.”

Hebe smiled and gave her a hug, “Wow it’s been forever! How’s Edison?”

Gillian shrugged, “He's fine, he sends you his wishes and says sorry he couldn't visit with me. He’s probably living the couch potato life right now.”

“So when’s the wedding date?” Hebe asked. She was curious. Gillian and Edison have been together since they were little children, so they’ve been together for about a good 7-8 years now. Hebe wanted a love that strong. She witnessed as Edison and Gillian struggled to keep their relationship steady, overcome all the obstacles they were challenged with and have this undying love for one another. She admired their relationship.

Gillian shook her head, “He still hasn’t proposed to me…”

Hebe gasped, “What on earth is he thinking?”

Gillian shrugged, “I’m fine with waiting. Heck, I’ve waited 8 years, what’s a few more years right? But to be honest I thought he would propose to me as soon as we graduated from college.”

“That’s true. So do you have any plans for tonight? Or are you going to unpack and surprise more people?” Hebe asked.

Gillian laughed and linked her arms with Hebe, “I have plans with you tonight.”

“Of course.” Hebe replied with a smile.

“Wait. Are you out in town by yourself?” Gillian asked looking around to see if Hebe had any bodyguards with her. “You’re actually alone?!” Gillian shouted in surprise.

“I stormed out of the house.” Hebe whispered.

Gillian gasped, Hebe was never a disobedient child under any circumstances. “Your mom must be going berserk on everyone now.”

Hebe nodded, “Yeah I think so too but my patience has run out. I can’t handle abiding by her restrictions anymore.”

“Just don’t get in trouble. What did your dad say?” Gillian asked.

“He didn’t care, he was just reading the newspaper to see if his votes went up.” Hebe answered.

“Ah I see. He’s winning the election by a landslide isn’t he?” Gillian remembered seeing the votes on the newspaper she read on the airplane.

Hebe nodded, “As always.”

“I’m surprised no paparazzi are tracking you down, this is breaking news right here.” Gillian joked. "Are you excited to go back to school?" Gillian asked. Gillian was a few years older than Hebe but nonetheless they're as close as ever. Hebe treated Gillian like an older sister and Gillian treasured Hebe as if she was her younger sister. Gillian who was fresh out of college turned 22 recently and as for Hebe she was still stuck being a senior in high school and was turning 18 in a few months.

Hebe groaned, "I'm not excited at all. But I guess it gives me an excuse to be home less."

"You're still attending private school huh? I'm surprised your parents aren't making you homeschooled." Gillian exclaimed.

Hebe's eyes widened, "Oh please don't even talk about that in front of my parents. This year, Kenny and I convinced them to allow me to enroll in a public school."

Gillian gasped, "You're just full of surprises today, aren't you?"

Hebe grinned, "I guess so! My rebellious inner self is starting to kick in."

"It's about time!"

▀▀▀

“Aaron, where are you taking me? This isn’t the way to the ice cream store.” Charlene asked as she looked around to see where Aaron was heading.

Aaron gave her a mysterious smile, “Don’t worry about it.”

Charlene grinned, “So you’re kidnapping me?”

“Yup.” Aaron answered, “Now can you put on the blindfold?”

Charlene let out a sarcastic gasp, “You really are kidnapping me mister!”

Aaron laughed at her childish response, “Charlene, please put on the blindfold my darling.”

“Okay, if you say so.” Charlene replied and tied the blindfold around her head, covering her eyes.

▀▀▀

“Where do you want to go?” Gillian asked. She looked at the time, it was already 7pm.

Hebe took a moment to think, “How about the beach?”

“I haven’t been to the beach in a while, let’s go.” Gillian exclaimed. The two girls got into Hebe’s car and headed towards the beach.

When they arrived, the two girls took off their shoes and relaxed their toes in the sand. “Ah, this feels pretty good.”

“It does.” Hebe replied and let out a big sigh of relief.

“Hey look over there.” Gillian pointed towards the right. Hebe turned around and gasped, there was a beautiful table set up ready for a dinner for two. It was a beautiful candlelit dinner. “How romantic.”

Hebe stared in awe, “Why can’t I find a guy that would treat me like that?”

“Hey look, there’s the couple.” Gillian pointed at a man leading a blindfolded girl to the table. Hebe gasped, it was Aaron. “That girl looks familiar…” Gillian leaned in to get a better view of the girl. She gasped as she recognized the girl. “That’s my cousin Charlene!”

Hebe continued to watch as Aaron carefully pulled out Charlene’s chair and gently helped her take her seat. As soon as he took of the blindfold, Charlene gasped at what she was looking at. Hebe couldn’t help but feel a little jealous of the girl.

▀▀▀

“Aaron! Its…wow…how did you even prepare this fast?” Charlene asked in amazement. She felt tears of joy swelling up in her eyes.

Aaron grinned, “Secret.”

Charlene laughed, “If this is what kidnapping feels like, I want to be kidnapped every single day!”

“You wish.” Aaron replied.

“So what’s the occasion?” Charlene asked.

Aaron shook his head, “No special occasion. It’s just, we haven’t been out for a while and I wanted to make up for all those missed dates we never had.”

Charlene leaned in and gave Aaron a long passionate kiss, “This is probably the best night ever. Thank you.”

“I love you.” Aaron whispered.

Charlene smiled, “I love you too.” Charlene gazed at her boyfriend, she didn't know what she did to deserve such an amazing guy like him. She was a year older than Aaron and many of her colleagues and classmates told her to give up on Aaron since he was still a high school student but Charlene was glad she didn't listen them because Aaron was the perfect boyfriend anyone could ask for.

▀▀▀

As Hebe and Gillian headed back, both were speechless by the scene they had just witnessed. “You know…” Gillian began to speak, breaking the silence, “I thought those types of events only happen in movies. I am so jealous of Charlene now.”

Hebe nodded in agreement, “Me too.”

“I wish Edison did more romantic things like that guy.” Gillian sighed.

“At least you have a boyfriend, I wish I had one.” Hebe sighed. She was never going to find a reliable man that’s suited for her or more like suited for her parents.

Gillian patted her back, “Your time will come Hebe, just be patient.”

“I know, I know.”
